About UbuntuNet

We build the measurement before we sell the media.

UbuntuNet is an audience-intelligence and mobility-media platform. We design, deploy and operate the sensors and cloud software that let media owners, advertisers and transit operators measure audiences, monetise media, and prove outcomes.

The gap we exist to close

Out-of-home media in South Africa has long lacked the measurement and accountability that digital channels take for granted. Advertisers buy billboards without knowing who really passed them. Operators run buses without understanding their audience. Media owners sell inventory on estimates rather than verified data.

We think every passenger should be counted, every audience understood, and every media investment made verifiable — while respecting privacy and complying with POPIA.

Measurement, then media

Most media businesses sell the space first and reach for measurement later. We do it the other way around. The sensors go into the field first, the reach and outcomes are counted where they actually happen, and only then does a campaign get booked against them.

It is a slower way to start. It is also the only way to sell out-of-home the way digital is sold — on numbers you can stand behind.

One platform, two layers

Eight products span a hardware deployment layer and a software platform layer. Together they form a complete measurement and media stack, purpose-built for the South African market — the sensors that count the audience, and the software that turns that into intelligence, inventory and verified campaigns.

How we work

Three principles hold across every deployment and every product decision.

Measurement first

We build the measurement before we sell the media. Every product decision starts with a simpler question — can we count this reliably, at the point of exposure?

Privacy by design

Anonymous, aggregated measurement. No personal images stored, no individuals identified. POPIA-compliant from the ground up, not bolted on afterwards.

Built for how people move

Designed for the real world people pass through every day — the buses, routes, stops, faces and floors of out-of-home — and priced for it, in rands.

Measurement first

We start where it's hardest to count

Transit, billboards and venues — the media that has never been properly measured.

Out-of-home is one of the last places where advertisers still pay for estimates: reach modelled from ridership guesses and theoretical viewability. That is precisely where a measured platform is worth the most, so it is where UbuntuNet is built to work — putting the measurement stack onto real buses, faces and floors before campaigns are sold against them.

One platform, one standard of proof — whatever a media owner or operator brings onto it, measured the same way and reported from the same pipeline that priced it.

Measured responsibly

Everything we deploy is anonymous and aggregated by design. Read how our methodology works, and how we meet POPIA and B-BBEE.
